The words unitary and federal have been taken from the two big kingdoms:
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and THE UNITED KINGDOM.
USA has it government of FEDERAL nature whereas UK has its government of UNITARY nature.
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
once upon a time there were small states in America which all were having their different identity.the came up together and formed a government which will have some powers for all the states and from that little power will be delegated to the states.
so, there was a central power and below that all the states/provinces have some power for their own good.
THIS METHOD WAS TAKEN INTO PICTURE BY INDIAN GOVERNMENT AND THE GOVERNMENT IS DIVIDED INTO CENTRAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT.
THERE ARE 3 LISTS :
1. UNION LIST- handled by central government
2. STATE LIST- handled by state government
3. CONCURRENT LIST- handled by both central and state government.
THE UNITED KINGDOM
UK has always been a single power where all the decisions are taken up by the queen. she is the only one having the powers to make policies and no one can refuse to agree upon the matter.
THIS METHOD WAS ADOPTED BY INDIA SO THAT THE COUNTRY MUST REMAIN UNITED AT THE TIME OF EMERGENCY AND ALL THE POWER GOES IN THE HANDS OF CENTRAL GOVERNMENT AND STATE CANNOT INTERFERE.
